General
|
-Ties and suit jackets are recommended to look your best AND you look AWESOME!
|
1) Students shall maintain a clean, orderly, and neat appearance while exercising good grooming and personal hygiene habits.
|
-Skirts and dresses are professional and recommended to look your best.
|
|
2) All clothing items shall be in generally good condition; e.g. clean, free from holes, rips, frays, or stains.
|
|
3) The general rule of “HEAD, SHOULDERS, KNEES AND TOES” applies: When arms are stretched above the head, no mid section should be revealed. Shoulders must be covered at all times. When bent over touching the knees and/or the toes, the shirt should cover the mid section, including the back.
|
|
Hair
|
- Hair cannot be over the shirt collar or eyes.
|
1) Radical or outlandish hairstyles and irregular hair colorings (any color that does not occur naturally) are inappropriate. Shaved heads are not allowed without school approval.
2) Hats and bandanas may not be worn inside the school unless there are religious or medical reasons.
|
- Hair cannot be in the eyes.
- Headbands (crochet) are OK.
|
|
Pants
|
|
1) Approved pants include dress pants, slacks, cords, and cargo style.
2) Pants and shorts are to be worn no lower than the hip at all times.
3) Shorts are permitted and must be no shorter than a credit card length above the knee.
** NO DENIM ** NO SWEATS/TRACK PANTS/WARM UPS
|
-Dresses, skirts and shorts are to be no shorter than a credit card length above the knee.
-Stockings must be professional; no fishnet or spider web stockings are allowed.

Shirts
|
- Shirts cannot be unbuttoned more than the top two buttons.
|
1) Collared shirts, polo shirts, and blouses are approved, as well as any shirt with the Merit school logo.
2) Sweaters and light jackets in solid colors, stripes and/or plaids are permitted; however, they may not have an image on them and the hood is never to be up.
3) Emblems/logos are allowed, but must be no larger than one inch.
4) Outerwear jackets and coats are not permitted inside the classroom.
** No T-shirts or pullover sweatshirts are permitted.

- Bare shoulders and midriffs are not allowed.
- Sleeves on blouses are to be no shorter than a cap sleeve.
- No cleavage is to be showing at any time.
-Shirts are to be opaque; no see-through clothing allowed.

|
Piercings
|
- No piercings.
- No nail polish.
|
1) No gauges
|
- Piercings are limited to the ears. No more than two per ear.
|
|
Sports
|
|
1) School sports uniforms are approved on game day only.
|
|
|
Other
|
|
*NOTE: Wearing of bandannas, chains, or any article of clothing or jewelry that may be associated with gangs or bearing any gang symbols, names, initials, insignia or anything else which signals gang affiliation and/or is worn for the purpose of signifying gang membership, is NOT allowed.

|
Shoes
|
|
Shoes are to be kept in overall good condition with no holes, stains, or rips. Sandals are permitted; however, flip flops are not. No slippers. Shoes must be laced or fastened at all times.
|
Platform or excessive high heels are not permitted.

Discipline
|
1st offense: student sent to front office and must change before reentering the academic environment. Student receives an entry slip to re-enter classroom.
2nd offense: student sent to front office and must change before reentering the academic environment-parent will be called. Student receives an entry slip to re-enter classroom.
3rd offense: student sent to front office and must change before reentering the academic environment-parent will be called, and an Intervention Meeting is set up between the student, parent, and an administrator. An Intervention Plan will be written and signed by the student, parent, and administrator.
4th offense: student sent to the front office. Becomes “Willful Disobedience” 3 day suspension. Intervention meeting scheduled and attended by student, parent, and Administrator. Intervention Plan updated.
5th offense: 5 day suspension, Intervention Meeting with Administration, Intervention Plan updated.
6th offense: Suspension. Student and parent required to attend an Intervention Meeting with Administration. Options will focus on Alternative Placement.

- If a student is not in dress code for the FIRST two weeks they will have the option of renting an approved item from the office for a charge of $1 per item to cover the laundering fee. March 19th is the last day for this program!
|
